OneDock and OneTab: Choosing a Tab Workflow
A neutral comparison of OneDock's live Drawer workflow and OneTab's list-collapse approach, with a current-store checklist.

OneDock and OneTab are distinct browser extensions. This guide does not imply a partnership, endorsement, shared developer, or trademark relationship. It also does not score either product.
The useful comparison is the workflow: manage tabs while they remain live in Chrome, or collapse tabs into a list-oriented surface for later use. Product capabilities change, so verify both current Chrome Web Store listings before choosing.

OneDock keeps the live browser session
OneDock v1.2.2 opens a Drawer over the current page. The default shortcut is Option+Q on macOS and Alt+W on Windows/Linux; check Chrome's Extension shortcuts page to confirm or change the actual binding. The extension popup can also open or close the Drawer.
The Drawer works with Chrome's current tabs across windows:
- Open tabs stays expanded and can be resized from its 240px default.
- Dock website icons provide temporary hover filtering and click-to-lock filtering.
- Minimap is vertical navigation for pinned and unpinned Open tabs rows.
- Window Monitor filters, previews, switches, and can close a Chrome window.
- Global search spans Open tabs, WebApps, Groups, Favorites, History, and Recently Closed.
- Cleanup can target a site, duplicates, older tabs, rows below a boundary, or a window.
This fits work where window placement and live page context still matter: development across two monitors, a research window beside a writing window, or product pages that must remain open while you compare them.
OneTab centers a list-collapse workflow
OneTab centers on collapsing tabs into a list for later access. That is a different starting point: remove pressure from the live tab bar and continue from the list.
Do not use this article as documentation for OneTab's current details. Open its current Chrome Web Store page and verify:
- exactly which command sends tabs to a list;
- whether restoration removes or retains list entries;
- single-tab and restore-all behavior;
- available import, export, sharing, or backup options;
- where list data is stored and what survives reinstall or device changes;
- current permissions and why the listing says they are needed;
- privacy disclosures, browser support, version, and update date.
Those details can change independently of OneDock. Check OneTab's current listing and in-product UI before depending on export or restore for important work.
Memory reduction is not the same operation
OneDock can discard eligible background tabs through auto memory reclaim. A discarded tab remains in the tab bar and reloads when selected. Rules can use idle time, a recent-tab allowance, or either checked rule; the active tab in each window is never discarded by OneDock.
That is not list collapse. It preserves the tab's place in the live browser and addresses loaded memory rather than tab-bar clutter. The complete rule values and reload risks are in Auto Memory Release.
A list-collapse tool may reduce the number of live tabs by converting them into entries elsewhere. Confirm OneTab's current implementation and claims on its listing; do not assume identical memory, restore, or persistence semantics from the category name.
OneDock cleanup and recovery boundaries
OneDock's pin and close-later markers skip quick close and similar supported batch cleanup, but a single-tab close can still close those tabs. They are not a blanket guarantee against every batch action and are not documented as exemptions from memory reclaim.
Action Recovery Center keeps about 100 local records and shows where supported browser and OneDock close events came from. It can restore one or several tabs, but it is a short-term undo log, not a saved session or bookmark archive. Clean Up Tabs Without Losing Your Place explains the safe workflow.
Compare data boundaries, not feature names
OneDock's optional Google Drive backup uses the user's own Drive app-data space and includes groups, favorites, site profiles, and preferences.
It does not include:
- open tabs or window layout;
- Action Recovery Center history;
- Running order;
- pin order;
- close-later flags.
OneDock therefore does not promise that a live tab session will reappear on another device. For OneTab, verify current storage, synchronization, restore, and export behavior directly rather than assuming that “saved list” means cloud backup.
Also compare the permission and privacy disclosures on each live listing. OneDock's store listing is currently English, titled OneDock - Tab Manager for Too Many Tabs, and reports version 1.2.2. Do not infer another extension's current permissions or data handling from OneDock's model.
Choose with a disposable test
Create a small test set: two reference pages, one unsaved-free web app, a duplicate, and pages split across two windows.
Try OneDock's site hover, locked filter, Window Monitor, duplicate cleanup, and local recovery while the tabs remain live. Then test OneTab's current list-collapse and restore flow according to its own store instructions. Pay attention to where you naturally look next: Chrome's existing windows or the list page.
Choose the surface that matches your daily state:
- A live Drawer is suited to ongoing work whose tab and window arrangement still matters.
- A list-collapse workflow is suited to sessions you are ready to move out of the active tab bar, subject to the current product's persistence and restore behavior.
Neither statement is a quality ranking. Recheck both listings after major updates.
